JENNERATION

Kardashian-Jenner-Family-Kanye-West-Fashion-Show
So… There is something I want to write about because everybody, including me obviously has an opinion about this. For this feature, I called it the Jennerartion, why? First of all, because I like puns and this is sort off a pun! Secondly, the internet, especially the social media platforms, keep blowing up about this family, what they are doing and every-thing around them.

The internet, social media platforms, are evolving as a perfection industry and I think it’s getting out of hand. Obvs, we couldn’t think about a world without social media and sure thing it has positive influences as well. This generation, children and teenagers nowadays, make me worry sometimes. Of course you can have a WII if you’re three or play games on the iPad just before going to sleep as a five year old while, I always enjoyed my mums voice telling me a bedtime story when I was that age.

I guess it’s hard to adjust to the new developments and changes in the world every now and than. It’s completely normal even though I couldn’t imagine a world without my iPhone and other electronic toys. But it doesn’t take away the fact that quite some time these devices and social platforms are abused and misused. Take Kylie Jenner, she is 19(?) years old and she has a crazy amount of influence on the world, especially younger girls. We shouldn’t forget that most images of her you see on the social media platforms are Photoshoped. This leads to, too many girls and boys suffering from insecurity issues.

I believe the people on this planet, especially the younger generation, shouldn’t forget what is real and what isn’t. The world is focussing on the bad beauty influences too much.

Dissolved Clothing

Mercedes Benz Amsterdam Fashion Week
Jef Montes – Friday 15 January 2016

‘Resolver’ is the name of Jef Montes’ fall/winter 2016 collection.

Blue lighting lit up the whole space before the show started, blue ‘boxes’ laid at the beginning of the catwalk. When the music started, models appeared and took place on these ‘boxes’ while two others threw water towards them. Their clothing was wet and slowly torn into smaller streaks of fabric till no fabric at all during their journey walking down the catwalk. This gave a beautiful effect and an almost complete naked view of the models. Some of the models walked down the catwalk holding a balloon filled with water, as if they were pregnant, and they let it burst halfway. One of the models during the show was actually pregnant and showed her belly with pride.

What they were wearing?

Jef Montes is known for his use of new types of materials for every collection. For this collection he used a material that felt like glue, which dissolved when it mixed with water. The pieces the models were wearing were grey, gleaming and loose around their bodies, like draped pieces of clothing. Everything was one piece and the models were naked underneath.

What is the message?

This collection is a critical response to the fast and on-going fashion world these days. It’s a ‘solution’, literally; the clothing dissolved, for today’s fashion that apparently died. What is fashion nowadays, what is still standing when it comes to the fashion industry?

Personally, I thought this fashion show was about women. Carrying new life insight them, an innocent creature with no idea what the world looks like, no expectations or judgments about it. Carrying a child inside a body is a humongous responsibility and privilege to have as a woman. I thought we were pulled back to the beginning of life, during this show, because the world around us is evolving extremely quickly, technology and fashion as well, are on-going processes.

Without clothes, we’re all the same. We’re equal, especially with no material objects, everybody has a body, a mind and soul, this is here where it all begins, right?!

Streetstyle: WE DRESS HOW WE FEEL

The following post is written on January 24th, 2015. I wrote this post with a fellow student for our website Trendpit.nl . This post is about streetstyle during the events at the Mercedes Benz Amsterdam Fashion Week January 2015.

Oliver Gonzalez ‘’I bought my clothes in Denmark but I currently live in The Netherlands. I never check if my outfit fits, I just wear whatever I want. In my private life I love to work as a DJ. I just dress to the occasion, so there’s not really something that gives me inspiration.’’

Oliver Gonzalez

Rolf Kok ‘’My boyfriend is a digital art designer so the sweater I’m wearing is Art and Fashion combined. I normally dress the way I feels, but I do sometimes combine my outfit with my boyfriend. Fashion makes me very happy so that’s what I want to show the world.. I find it very funny to see that people dress their age, but I don’t want that. I want to dress the way I feel.’’

Rolf Kok

Vancha ‘’I like to dress the way I feel and that is how I want to present myself. I get inspiration mostly from the streets and Instagram. I don’t particularly look at signs I just see something when it looks good and that’s what I think is cool. I mostly wear black but only black can be boring sometimes, so I add something just like this sweater.’’

Vancha

Theun ‘I love the darkness and don’t show my feelings, so black is my favourite colour.
Because black is my colour, I wear it everyday and combine it with everything minimalistic. I normally choose one piece and from there I style the rest. Swedish bloggers are my inspiration.’

Streetstyle: SURVIVING THE COLD

The following post is written on January 27th, 2014. I wrote this with a fellow student for our website Trendpit.nl .

Today we went out for a walk into the city of Amsterdam, searching for people wearing an interesting outfit. It is finally getting colder in the Netherlands so we were really curious about the way men and women are dressing themselves these days. Will the colder weather affect their style? First we visited the Westergasterrein and next we visited the Haarlemmerplein to find out.

meisje1

The first girl we noticed was walking down the Westergasterrein, she was wearing a really oversized printed coat and she was carrying a big camera with her. But the rest of her outfit was black, we asked her about the reason why.

“I always go for something comfortable to wear and it has to be black most of the time. I like black because I can match my bright lipstick with everything that I’m wearing. My signature is high waisted jeans en skirts. The coat I’m wearing is from a second hand shop.”

meisje2

We spotted this young lady walking the streets with her friend, one thing that immediately caught our eye was her warm coloured yellow skirt.

“I love different kind of fabrics and textures, I like how they feel. My outfit has to be warm and comfortable. The colours of the outfit I’m wearing are bright but natural. Almost everything I’m wearing is vintage and second hand.”

3

When we continued our walk down the streets we spotted another fabulous lady. She was wearing all black and it looked like her clothes where draped around her body.

“Black would be my favourite colour in the world. It looks good on every occasion.
I think it’s important to look good, but above all my clothes have to feel comfortable. This type of weather is perfect to layer different items on your body. Beside the warmth of it, you can also add your own personal twist to it.”

4

This boy passed us and we asked him immediately if we could take a picture of his outfit. He was dressed in a complete black outfit. He draped his large collar around is head.

“Whenever I go out, I always wear black. It makes me feel safe and comfortable. I do wear colour but it’s occasionally, it will never be very bright.”

These people had a lot in common. They can definitely survive this winter, they find it very important that their outfit looks beautiful but it must fit and feel comfortable! Because these outfits consist of many different layers, it’s nice and warm. In addition they wear clothing made from soft and warm materials. We’ve asked ourselves a question in the beginning, ‘Will the colder weather affect their style?’ Well the answer is yes, but in a positive way. Oversized coats and scarves are really popular this season we see it everywhere. The clothing is made from soft and warm fabrics and almost everyone wears layers.

THE REBIRTH OF HAIR

The following post is written on January 27th, 2014. I wrote this with a fellow student for our website Trendpit.nl .

For years, L’Oréal has been taking care of the hair during Fashion Week in Amsterdam. This year L’Oréal also had their own exclusive hair show to show the talent and creativity of their hairdressers. On the screen the words ‘The Rebirth of Hair’ appeared.

The show opened with the L’Oréal hairdressers themselves. With a live tutorial they showed the audience how fast a hairstyle can be changed to a whole different look. The converted hairstyles were, along with some other looks, shown during the fashion show. The models were dressed in black or completely covered in a look with silver and gold and hairstyles in different colors.

Berni Ottjes makes his army ready live on the catwalk. We noticed that the men took over the roles of the woman, dressed in revealing clothes made of leather and lace. The men wore huge colored and teased wigs. At the end of Berni’s part a drag queen walked on to the catwalk with red colored curly hair including a big crown. Two men wearing nothing but a leather short and leather boots accompanied her.

image-9

Kinki Kappers’ army arrived on the catwalk. The army of Kinki cleared the way for the fairytale woman in colorful dresses and hairstyles. We noticed that the hairstyles of many models had a side cut and different colors were combined in one hairstyle. It felt like we had fallen through the rabbit hole and we arrived in the wonderland of Alice.

Balloons, flowers and candy cane colors, we arrived in L’Oréal’s Wonderland. After years of fighting, L’Oréal has its own wonderland here at the Amsterdam Fashion week. They definitely earned it.

Dark lip December

Hello guys!

In this blogpost I’m writing about lip make-up. Butttt, as you can see by the title of this blogpost, I’m writing about some dark lip make-up. My favourite lip colours of the year!

So as you may already know by now, I love autumn and winter and everything about it. The make-up as well! Christmas (and other festive holidays) is right around the corner so I find this the perfect opportunity to talk to you about this subject.

Lets start shall we?

The following lippie products are this seasons favourites of mine.

First, my classic red lipstick. This lipstick is from Maybelline New York, it’s called ‘Pleasure Me Red’ number 547. Perfect to wear on christmas or another festive holiday like new year’s eve! This lipstick makes your teeth looks so white, wonderful!
Second, this is my lipstick from Teeez (trendy cosmetics) in the colour ‘Lucky Chocolate’. This lipstick is a brownish lipstick, really lovely. But the only thing about this one is, you need to wear a lip pencil underneath because if you don’t, it won’t last really long on your lips.
The next one is from Chanel, it is a mini version of their lipsticks. It’s called ‘Rouge Coco’ nr. 05. I’ve been searching for the big version ever since I got this one, I still haven’t found it yet.. So if some of you know this lipstick, or a similar one, please let me know in the comments! If you’re not sure about dark lipsticks, try a color like this one. It’s not to dark but definitely a beautiful beginning.

Next up is one of my MAC lipsticks. This is my darkest lipstick I own, it is a dark purple one and it is in the colour ‘Cyber’ (sounds a bit terrifying doesn’t it?). ‘Cyber’ is from the satin collection, which is really nice because it’s a really soft and moisturizing lipstick, but this one still stays on really long although it’s not a matte one.
This one is slightly different from the others I talked about because it’s a lip crayon but it looks like a thick lip pencil. My Maybelline New York one, from the ‘Color drama collection’, mine is in the color ‘Berry Much’ nr. 310. It is an amazing lip product, it’s so smooth and soft on your lips. It’s really easy to put on and you won’t need a lip pencil, you could use one though but it’s not necessary. Because this lip crayon stays on really well. I’ve worn this on my birthday, I’ve had several drinks and ate pie and other things and it was still there. Love it!

Last but not least, another MAC one. But this is a dark lipglass. No I didn’t spell that wrong, the packaging says it’s a lipglass. Yes it’s a lipgloss and it’s in the color ‘Rebel’. I’m normally not a big fan of lip glosses, I found them sticky and annoying, so i bought the ‘sized to go one’, but this color is really pretty. I always found a dark lipgloss less daring then a lipstick and easier to put on. So if you find dark lipsticks to daring, try a lipgloss, you will feel more comfortable and is easy to put on and to get off if you don’t like it.

Lastly I want to tell you about something that gives your dark lips some extra houres. I got this from a good friend of mine for my birthday.

It is called ‘lipcote’. I’ll give you more information about this in another blogpost.
Stay curious! 😉

I hope this blogpost will give you a little inspiration for the festive holidays and the chilly fashionable months.

I’d love to know what your favourite lipstick/product colour is, so leave that down in the comments below! (If someone is reading my blog, ha ha).

Have a nice day, I’ll be back soon.

(The lip-products’ names are links to webshops where you’re able to buy them).

Autumn Love

Hello there,

This post is about me rambling on about things I love when autumn arrives. Slightly different but I love to share my thoughts about it with you and I hope some of you might recognize some of it as well.

It is November and autumn is finally here! This makes me so so happy, because autumn is my all time favorite time of the year (as well as winter time). Many people would probably wonder why? Well.. I will tell you why. I love cold weather, trees who turn red and orange, the falling autumn leaves, cold autumn and winter evenings where you can cuddle up in a cute warm blanket with hot chocolate and marshmallows. Cuddling with your love or friends in front of the fire place. Candles and cute fairy lights lighten up your home, being all cozy and smelling delicious. Early dark evenings are just so delightful and cozy.

Not to forget about my BIRTHDAY coming up in about three weeks, Sinterklaas (a dutch holiday), CHRISTMAS and NEW YEARS EVE!
So many exciting holidays to look forward to.

I LOVE candles, I know different candles and candle brands. The moment it gets a little bit colder.. my candles are burning. I love scented candles most, for example vanilla, coconut and the christmas’ ones. Another important aspect for me is the packaging, the way they look. I have a weakness for cute packaged or potted candles. I love the way they look together on a plate in my room or single on my bedside table or on my desk while I’m writing.

These two are from Ikea: blue one is coconut lime and the white one is vanilla!

These two are from Ikea: blue one is coconut lime and the white one is vanilla!

Besides the holidays, candles and cold nights, I think that the autumn/winter fashion is the most exciting and beautiful fashion of all seasons. I just love layering my clothing, wearing blouses with warm oversized knitted sweaters. The softest cardigans with a length till my ankles, capes and the wide diversity of autumn/winter coats. Don’t forget the accessories like shawls and beanies and hats in all shapes and sizes. Also this time of the year in fashion land, the fabrics are divers. Leather, fake leather, faux fur, fur, wool, cashmere etc. etc. The colors this season are also gorgeous. On my wish list are: dark purple, mustard, dark green, grey and black of course.

Make-up wise it’s the same story. Dark lips, purple, brown, dark red, I absolutely love it!

I could ramble on about my love for autumn/winter fashion for hours, but i’ll spare you.

In a matter of fact, I’ll upload my first outfit post very soon! In a wholly autumnal atmosphere, that’s for sure! (And maybe more ;))

Thanks for reading and stay tuned!

Changing Industry

Hello lovely readers,

A few weeks ago I watched RTL Late Night, a dutch TV talkshow, Negin Mirsalehi was a guest during the show. Negin Mirsalehi is a really successful and my personal inspiration. If you don’t know her, Negin is a fashion, beauty and lifestyle blogger. I insert her website here , make sure you’ll give it a look. During the episode of RTL Late Night Humberto Tan asked Negin about the fashion industry and fashion shows. The discussion proceeded about upcoming fashion shows and bloggers on social media. His question was: What are the original fashion shows’ future going to be like? Will social media put an end to them or not? I found this conversation really interesting because it’s true, bloggers become more popular everyday. But personally I think the authentic fashion shows won’t disappear, every fashion lover loves them!

Humberto said as final conclusion: The authentic fashion show remains existing but social media is a competitor.

Fashion shows are a way of expressing who you are as a designer. The guests as well, you want a certain audience to come to your show. The way they dress and look is important too. Besides, most of the fashion shows carries a hidden message during the show. A message to the world, people, government or community. Chanel’s fashion shows for example, Karl Lagerfeld wants to give people something to think about every time.

Bloggers have a big influence in this society these days, everybody reads their blogs. There are bloggers in different shapes and sizes, writing about different industries and interests. Some of them have more influences on readers about for example, make-up and styling, than actual make-up artists or professional stylists. Which is a striking signal. The offline world keeps getting more popular everyday. I love bloggers but I also love authentic fashion shows, I visited a few fashion shows at the Mercedes-Benz Amsterdam Fashion Week this year and it was amazing. I hope I’ll visit international fashion weeks one day!

Thanks for reading and I’ll keep you posted!

My RealTechniques Make-up Brushes

Hello there and welcome,

Today I’m going to talk to you about make-up brushes; this will be a beauty related blog post. I thought a lot about what my first post would be, I wasn’t really sure. Then I realized I should write about something that I use and love a lot. Make-up brushes! So that’s what I’m going to do.

RealTechniques, the name says it all. I’ve heard so many things about these brushes and I needed to get them. But I live in The Netherlands and we don’t have as many make-up brands as the USA or the UK for example. So they were really hard to find here, BUT I DID and I’m very very happy with them!

You can have great make-up but I believe, without good quality brushes, you’ll never get a good result as when you also have high quality brushes to apply your make-up with. It was a long journey before I found these lovely’s, welcome to the family!

The RealTechniques brushes are not expensive at all and that’s definitely a plus. These brushes are extremely soft and there are many different shapes and sizes to fulfill all your needs. Another plus is the fact that my make-up won’t be sticking onto my RealTechniques brushes compared to other brushes I own. I’m looking forward to start using more of them!

Thank you Chapman sisters! Make sure you’ll check out their website and tutorials here (if you haven’t already).

I bought my brushes at Boqz, a store in Eindhoven. You can order them on a lot of webshops but I prefer to buy them in a real store.

Thank you for reading!

Love,
Judith

Different ideals of beauty

Hi guys,

I visited Amsterdam Fashion week last week and there were different things that struck me on the catwalk. There were very long models, older models, skinny models, models with feminine shapes and models from different ethical groups. What I’ve seen was that there was more diversity in the models pick. It’s a good thing! Right?
Maison the faux, one by one, the models entered the room but not only young girls, but men in similar outfits as well and there were a couple models with an older age entering the room. There are no differences between the clothing for men and women that they designed. We see it more often, more diversity of models in fashion shows. It looks like the designers are trying to show us real beauty, real men and woman. We all want to stay young, pretty and skinny in our society, but that is not what real beauty is.

“Gender and generalize is very important in fashion.” Joris Suk says.

It’s cool because the designers who allowed all these different models on the catwalk, made a statement. A statement that says: it doesn’t matter how old you are or if you’re a men or a woman. It was a statement for gender blending and age fading. Because of using all these different kind of models, more men and woman will recognize themselves in fashion. Well maybe this will lead to the arising of more freedom in fashion land.

Maison the Faux - aged model

Maison the Faux – aged model

Future growth potential? Yes, aiming to perfection in this world is exhausting for many people. So using different shaped, aged and gendered models will stand out by many and may have an influence. I think that this changing will not last very long, fashion is changing all the time as well as the thoughts and statements behind it. Appearance has a lot of influence on people, conscious and unconscious.
